Training FAQs

Millpond Public Training Course FAQs

The slides used by our instructors for certification preparation courses are issued by the relevant certifying body, but we also include additional material that we have found helpful as practitioners.

We also provide access to mock exams so that you can practice the style of questions that will be asked in the actual exam and gauge your progress as you complete the course.

In addition, we provide >30 project Management templates and several other resources that you will find useful in your study and in your career.

Our Live and Online courses are an online classroom with a live instructor presenting slides, case studies, and facilitating discussion rather than a series of pre-recorded video lessons. That means that you get the benefit of being able to ask questions in real time of the instructor, of hearing your classmates’ questions and their experiences etc.

Many people also find that being part of a group in this way provides extra energy and motivation to study and often talk about the pleasure they get from meeting other people in similar roles at other companies. Not to mention the networking opportunities that it provides.

There is no pre-reading, but once the course has started, you will have study and exercises to complete between the sessions. Our courses are presented at a fast pace so reviewing the materials between sessions is a good idea.

The amount of on-course study and revision you will require to pass the exam for a certification preparation course will depend on your familiarity with the concepts, how recently you have been in an education setting, and what your particular learning style is. To maximise your chances of success in the exam, we recommend at least the same number of hours between each session as the session itself and the same again after the course and before the exam.

As above, Millpond’s Early Bird discount is applied automatically to all registrations made more than 60 calendar days before a course commences. Some of our more popular courses do fill up as far as 4 weeks before the course begins, so it pays to register as early as possible to secure your space. If you are not sure about being able to attend, please read our full Terms and Conditions before doing so, however, as you will be required to accept them on the way through the checkout process.

We can accept credit card payments, or we can issue an invoice to you or your organisation.

If you wish to pay on invoice and we have not yet been set up as a supplier to your organisation, please pay by credit card, or check with your Accounts Payable for the information they require to set us up before you register.

If a Purchase Order number is required for us to be paid by your organisation, please ensure you have that available to include on the way through the checkout.

If you require a quote to assist with generating a Purchase Order from your organisation, please contact us at [email protected] with the details required.

We know real learning and deep understanding takes time.

Students must understand, appreciate, assimilate, and apply the knowledge they learn in order to not only pass the exam but also to retain the knowledge and be able to use it in their jobs.

Although our competitors offer shorter exam preparation courses for those in a hurry, these courses feature a high degree of rote learning, or memorisation techniques rather than a deep understanding of concepts and principles and the time to think about how to apply them.

Millpond prefers not to measure success based purely on your pass or fail in the exam, but rather we value real insight and advancement in your professional development.

Millpond often runs PMP® and CAPM® exam preparation training as one course. These combined courses are 35 hours of course delivery to accommodate the pre-requisites for PMP® and each delegate is issued study materials relevant for the exam they intend to sit. At a high level, the content for both exams is the same – project management is project management, but the two exams test your knowledge in a different way. CAPM® is more term/definition based while PMP® is situational based. We find that PMP® delegates get the benefit of (re)exposure to the basics/theory of project management in these courses, and CAPM® delegates gain an appreciation of the more applied aspects of the profession at the same time as getting a fantastic grounding.

Each exam is constructed from a bank of questions. Not everyone answers the same questions.

Check out the relevant Exam Content Outlines for more details. This document details the basis for examination questions. It portrays all the knowledge or tasks PMI expects certification holders to be familiar with in order to hold the certification.

All PMI certifications require that you engage in continuous professional development to remain certified.

To maintain your certification, you must earn a set number of professional development units (PDUs) every three years. You can read more about this process at How to Maintain your PMI Certification | PMI.

It is not arduous.

The full requirements for each certification can be found within the Continuing Certification Requirements Handbook.

PMI’s exams are delivered by Pearson Vue which means that you can take your exam in the comfort of your home or office while being monitored by an offsite proctor (learn more here).

If you live in a major centre there may be a testing centre near you for an in-person exam.

Being a paid-up member of PMI is not required to be certified, but we highly recommend it for the member-only savings; learning opportunities; time-saving tools and templates; and local community connections. Make sure you join before paying the exam fee!

The benefits of PMI membership can be found here. In summary, PMI members get access to a free .pdf of the current PMBOK® Guide, many other standards and publications, including the Agile Practice Guide, plus discounted exam fees as above, and a 10% discount on Millpond’s PMI certification training courses.

You will need to create a free account on the pmi.org website, submit an application for the exam by answering specific questions and (for the exams that require proven project management experience) short descriptions of each of the projects you have managed.

After you have been accepted to sit the exam by PMI, you will be taken to a secure payment processing facility to pay for it.

If you choose to sit your exam online, there are generally a wide variety of timeslots available since the virtual proctor can be based anywhere in the world.

In contrast, it can be very difficult to obtain appointment times for in-person exams at testing centres, however, as these centres must offer a very wide variety of exams to justify the investment required. In addition, the centres tend to be only in major centres.  We recommend that you begin the scheduling process as early as possible if you wish to sit at a centre.

If you are nervous about sitting the exam online, we have two relevant blogs on our website.
